The undercut house that looks over the isle of Kiradikia
MG01-27
This stylish contemporary residence is located in an olive grove, on the hillside that leads to the sea and directly overlooks the sunset and the islet of Kyradikia with the Monastery.
It is designed to take advantage of the natural slope of the terrain by using undercut sections in the majority of the building. It is a two-level building, one fully subterranean with an adjacent basement and an upper level that has a ground floor section but also a subterranean section. The ground floor section also has a planted roof, so that it is under natural ground cover. The entrance to the building is accessed through an impressive “tunnel” of metal elements that pierces the space between the earth and the ground floor section. The ample common areas and abundant number of bedrooms offer simultaneous accommodation for multiple users. The dominant projecting cantilever-sunshades not only create an image of stark contrast with the natural landscape, contributing to the modern form of the house, but also offer solar protection. On both levels of the building there are panoramic views of the sea and the island of Kyradikia. The spacious swimming pool with Jacuzzi comes to complement the experience offered by the location and the design of the outdoor spaces.
